Portfolio of Works
Free
I created my Free series to celebrate the moment we finally break free from inner oppression and obstacles; the moment we say “enough is enough” and break out, shed our skin and begin anew as our higher, authentic self escapes those boundaries and flies away free. The outer crate or box symbolizes deeper exploration of our feelings that may reveal how we would either present ourselves with a beautiful facade to the outside world, or lock ourselves away to be neglected or forgotten altogether. Features like broken floorboards, aging, warped or cracked edges conjure feelings of neglect and abandonment while inside reveals loneliness and yearning, counting down time until the moment we leave it all behind to reveal our newly released spirit.

Silos
For my Silos series, I celebrate the paradox of beauty and age. For many years I owned a printing company in an old mill town whose best days were decades behind it. Next to every abandoned factory here were dilapidated silos and water towers; their once smooth and shiny skin was now sooty, rusted and decayed, tattooed with graffiti. These were the elders of this town. They knew the past. And through their weathered and worn appearance they would tell me their stories of the passage of time. And until some bulldozer with no memory shows up, they stand firm in their resolve to remain. I found them to be quite beautiful and wise. I hoped one day I could share their beauty with others.

Rare Birds
My Rare Birds series is a deliberate blurring of the lines that separate abstract and specific, organic and synthetic. Forms are squared off to declassify natural and manmade states. Textures made to seem soft are hard. Gestures become language that bring deep meaning. Peel away the expectations of what we expect to be, and we can intrinsically know the way we feel. Each pieces comes with a poem.

Wall Installations
My “FREE” wall installations take that celebratory moment of breaking FREE from what has held you back and goes big. Clusters and rows of “wood” (remember—these are all ceramic!) crates splay across an old abandoned warehouse. Initially, feelings of loneliness, neglect and hopelessness come up—that moment where being “one in a million” works against you. Look closer and see—one of the crates has blown out! Hope and exhilaration abounds as the soul, no longer trapped, flies free.
The “FREE” wall installations are bespoke. Size, scale, layout, and number of crates will be designed to best suit the installation site. Crates will be appropriately constructed for indoor or outdoor installation. The “warehouse floor” background can be constructed from wood and concrete or painted/applied directly to the wall, or omitted altogether, to best suit hanging, site requirements and the desires of the collector.
For community engagement a QR code can be placed near the installation. The QR code will direct observers to a website where they can share stories of where they were stuck and how they broke free.
Images shown here are from existing and/or proposed installations, Marquettes & conceptual drawings, and “ready to hang” works. Clicking the “MORE INFO” link on each image will take you to additional images and details about each image. Occasionally indoor installations come available as “ready to hang”.
